August in Shawnee can be a scorcher, but it’s easy to keep cool with Boy Scout Park in the heart of the city. On the corner of N. Pesotum Avenue and Main Street, the park installed a splash pad two summers ago and Shawnee summers haven’t been the same since. Open daily from 10 a.m. – 8 p.m., this family-friendly destination provides the perfect place to cool off. A favorite for little ones, the 64 by 80-foot pad includes a Flower Shower and Triple Fun Tree. Check out the Water Whoosh if you’re really trying to beat the heat, complete with a 20-foot bucket dump feature.
The entire park is just over 9 acres and boasts a variety of outdoor recreation fun for the whole family. With grassy, rolling gentle hills perfect for picnics and play, you’ll want to pack a lunch and choose a shady spot under a tree or at one of the picnic tables for a full day of the great outdoors.
Park and Rec
Take advantage of the four tennis courts, numerous playgrounds and basketball courts peppered around the park during your visit. There are 27 picnic tables, along with numerous charcoal grills, ideal for your summer barbeque. A short 0.5 mile trail leads to disc golf or a huge pavilion for special events.
One picnic area is ADA-friendly, and it’s the only park in the region with a storm shelter. Restroom facilities are clean, patrolled and well-maintained. If you’re looking for a place to enjoy the last of summer, Boy Scout Park has everything you need.
